Joe's Becomes Official Outfitter for CleanUpTheRiver.com
 
 
Mike Anderson is a man with a mission to protect beautiful places.  He does this while paddling his kayak down sections of the Mississippi River and geo-trashing (the process of geo-tagging trash in the river).  Geo-trashing is when items discovered littering the river that are too large to remove are tagged by these GPS-toting kayakers who also post the coordinates of the trash on Mike's blog: www.CleanUpTheRiver.com.  Later, persons with larger craft may use these coordinates to locate and remove items from the waterways.  Jim and Joe Rauscher, owners of Joe's Sporting Goods, heard about Mike's efforts and decided to participate with CleanUpTheRiver by providing two new kayaks for use in geo-trashing this year and will continue to supply them on an on-going basis.  Want more information?  On Wednesday, May 21, Mike's project was featured in the KARE 11 News Extra, known as Earth KARE:   www.kare11.com/news/earthkare/.

How It Works...

Thanks to all who came out to our three "Canoe & Kayak" demos during the month of May at Gervais Lake Park.  Joe's Sporting Goods is a great advocate of "try before you buy!"  The many who checked out products by Necky, Emotion, Old Town, Wilderness, Perception and Dagger on May 1, 15, and 29 were testament to that philosophy.

We had a great time visiting with paddlers of all skill levels, from the prospective to the veteran.  Thanks also to the company representatives who joined us to answer questions about their products.  For those of you who haven't yet looked into this great sport, do stop in the shop and talk to our paddling experts.  There's a long season ahead of us!

Recipe of the Month
 
 
These are easy, fast, and can be flash frozen on baking sheets, then stored in plastic bags in the freezer until ready to use.  They make great appetizers in the summer... place on a platter with toothpicks and a bowl of sweet barbeque sauce, and watch them disappear.  Get the kids involved making the meatballs (I use a small half-hemisphere ice cream scoop to get all the meatballs exactly the same size).
